Vice President CHEN Feng Led a Delegation to Visit Russian Universities

From April 4 to 8, 2015, Vice President CHEN Feng led a delegation to visit the Saint Petersburg State Transport University (PSTU), Moscow State University of Railway Engineering (MIIT) and Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology. On the one hand, this visit has settled specific issues of the Russia-China Jiaotong Institute. On the other hand, through the survey of the school-running model, talent cultivation and scientific research of the Russian universities, this visit has provided detailed reference for BJTU to make the "13th Five-year Plan”.


On April 4, CHEN Feng met with Ambassador LI Hui and ZHAO Guocheng, Minister Councilor (Education) of the Chinese Embassy in Russia. CHEN Feng introduced the significance and work progress of the Russia-China Jiaotong Institute that co-built by both Saint Petersburg State Transport University and Beijing Jiaotong University. Then, he elaborated on the important role of the Russia-China Jiaotong Institute in the service of the national initiatives of “One Belt, One Road” and “Going Global”. He hoped that the Chinese Embassy in Russia would fully support the construction and development of the Institute. LI Hui and ZHAO Guocheng spoke highly of the China-Russia Jiaotong Institute and were willing to support the development of the Institute.



From April 5 to 6, 2015, the delegation visited the Saint Petersburg State Transport University (PSTU) and held talks with President Viktor N. Lobko, Rector Alexander Panychev, Vice Rector (Research) Tamila S. Titova and Yelena, Assistant Rector and Director of the Russia-China Jiaotong Institute on the Russian side. Both sides have reached consensus on the preparation and succeeding work of the China-Russia Jiaotong Institute and exchanged views on the establishment of Confucius Institute at PSTU.



The delegation also discussed the development planning and talent cultivation with Vice Rector (Finance and Development) of the Saint Petersburg State Transport University.



On April 7, the delegation visited the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering (MIIT) and discussed the development planning, talent cultivation and international cooperation with Vice Rector Prof. Sergey Petrovic. They conducted consultation on the succeeding exchange and cooperation and also visited the laboratory at MIIT.



On April 8, the delegation visited the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology which was jointly established by both Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Russian government and discussed the school-running mission and talent cultivation with President Prof. Edward Crawley and Vice President Prof. Mats Hanson. The talent cultivation mode of highlighting practice and innovation has aroused great interest among the guests. Then, CHEN Feng proposed to strengthen the succeeding exchange and cooperation which has received a favorable response. ZHAO Guocheng, Minister Councilor (Education) and MEI Hancheng, First Secretary (Education) of the Chinese Embassy in Russia were also present at the meeting.

The delegation also examined the subway operation of Russia. Overall, the visit was a complete success and has achieved the desired objectives, which gave momentum to the succeeding work of Russia-China Jiaotong Institute, expanded new areas of cooperation and provided rich experience for in-depth understanding the development planning and talent cultivation of Russian higher education as well as making the “13th Five Year Plan” of BJTU.

Principals from the Office of International Affairs, Office of Academic Affairs and Office of Development and Planning were also present during the visit.
