BJTU's Transportation Engineering and Systems Science Ranked 1st Again in China's Best Subjects Ranking

On November 8, the results of 2023 China’s Best Subjects Ranking in ARWU were released, in which 23 subjects of BJTU were on the list, while Transportation Engineering and Systems Science topped the list again and were rated as "China's top subjects" (top 3% or top 2), and Information and Communication Engineering and civil engineering were rated as "China's first-class subjects" (top 7% or top 3, top 12% or top 4 nationwide). BJTU ranked 33rd in China in terms of the number of top subjects. Transportation Engineering has been ranked No. 1 in China for six consecutive years, Systems Science has been ranked No. 1 in China for five consecutive years since its first ranking in 2019, and Information and Communication Engineering has been ranked No. 7 in China.

The index system of the 2023 China’s Best Subjects Ranking covers five categories: talent training, platform projects, achievement awards, academic papers, and high-level professionals, with 18 indicators, including more than 70 objective quantitative indicators. Different indicator systems would be applied for different subjects.

The subjects in China's Best Subjects Ranking are the first-level subjects listed in the Catalogue of Subjects for Degree Conferment and Talent Training (promulgated in 2011 and revised in 2018) issued by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council and the Ministry of Education of China. For each first-level subject, the ranking is open for all universities that have set up an academic postgraduate degree authorization point for that subject, and the top 50% of universities for the subject would be released. The list released by 2023 China’s Best Subjects Ranking included 98 first-level subjects, involving 5,053 degree points from 485 universities.
