1000 Talent Plan Foreign Expert Prof. Jin Ho Kwak Awarded 2014 Chinese Government Friendship Award


As was informed by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs most recently, 1000 Talent Plan foreign expert Prof. Jin Ho Kwak won 2014 Chinese Government Friendship Award. Jin Ho Kwak, Member of Korean Academy of Science and Technology, former Provost of Pohang University of Science and Technology, is now working at the School of Science, BJTU.

According to the foreign expert affairs records of Beijing Jiaotong University, Prof. Kwak is the first one that wins the special award. He signed the contract to be the deputy dean of the Fundamental & Interdisciplinary Science School from 2011, and was accepted into the first group of 1000 Talent Plan in China from March, 2012. It was then that he offered multiple courses not only for undergraduate students but also for graduate ones, integrating the world-front mathematics research achievements into the daily teaching and research work, substantially strengthening the competitive edge of the students and school young teaching faculty, promoting the cooperation of Beijing Jiaotong University with the world and Korean mathematics study. Due to the prominent work achievements, Prof. Kwak was granted to meet President XI Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in December, 2012, and in March, 2014 he was awarded the Great Wall Friendship Award by the Beijing Municipal Government for the period of 2011-2013.

To recognize the foreign experts who make outstanding contributions to the modernization and social development of China, the government set up Friendship Award. Since the year of 1991, 1299 foreign experts from 67 countries and regions have been awarded with this honor.
