CAO Guoyong Met with State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science, Latvia

On October 10, 2016, Mr. CAO Guoyong, Chairman of the University Council, met with the delegation led by Ms. Līga Lejiņa, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science, Latvia, and H.E. Mr. Māris Selga, Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to the People’s Republic of China. Both sides carried out in-depth discussions upon China-Latvia Higher Education Cooperation. The delegation from the Ministry of Education and Science, Latvia, was invited by China’s Ministry of Education to attend the China-EU Education Ministers Conference and also visit BJTU.

On behalf of BJTU, Mr. CAO Guoyong extended warm welcome to the Latvian delegation and introduced the history, distinctive university operational modes and remarkable contributions made to the development of China’s high-speed railway and urban rail transit. He hoped that both sides would strengthen cooperation on scientific research and personnel exchange, establish demonstrative cooperative relations with Latvian universities on engineering and management and make active contributions to the people-people exchange of the two countries.  

Ms. Līga Lejiņa expressed gratitude to BJTU for the hospitality. He was great influenced by the long history and development of the university. Then, she introduced the higher education of Latvia and idea of internationalization. She pointed out that the Latvian government encourages Latvian universities and scholars to carry out exchange and cooperation with Chinese counterparts on student mobility and joint research. She promised to promote cooperation between BJTU and Latvian universities on strength discipline and provide information on the current educational policy and financial support.

CAO Guoyong also accompanied the delegation to visit the campus.

Before the meeting, accompanied by Vice President CHEN Feng, the guests visited the University Museum and State Key Laboratory of Rail Traffic Control and Safety. Principals from the State Key Laboratory of Rail Traffic Control and Safety and Office of International Affairs were present at the above activities.

During the stay in Beijing, CHEN Feng also accompanied them to attend the China-EU Education Ministers Conference and 4th China-CEEC Education Policy Dialogue as well as other bilateral meetings.
