Delegation from Queen Mary, University of London Visited BJTU



On the morning of October 24, 2014, Ms.GAO Yan, Vice Chairman of the University Council of BJTU met with the delegation from Queen Mary, University of London (QMUL) led by Prof. Bill Spence, Vice Principal of QUML and Prof. Geraint Wiggins, Head of the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, QUML.



GAO Yan extended welcome to the guests on behalf of the University and expressed gratitude to Queen Mary for the assistance during the BJTU Administrative Staff Overseas Training Program in U.K. She introduced the history, discipline setting, scientific research and international exchange of the University and BJTU’s contributions to the construction and development of China’s high-speed railway, especially in talents cultivation and scientific research. She hoped that both sides would seize the opportunity of student-teacher exchange to expand collaboration in scientific research.



Prof. Bill Spence expressed gratitude to BJTU for the hospitality and briefed the school setting and student cultivation of Queen Mary. He said both sides share solid foundation for cooperation and expected to further promote cooperation on joint education programs and teacher exchange. Besides, he hoped that both sides would strive for the funding between Sino-U.K. and Sino-EU Governments so as to implement the joint scientific research programs.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed the PhD joint education program, expecting to further expand the scale of the PhD joint education program with the financial supports from the British “Newton Scholarship” and the Chinese CSC High-level Government Scholarship Postgraduate Program.

Before the meeting, Prof. ZHONG Zhangdui, Dean of the School of Computer and Information Science discussed the mode of joint education programs, the linkage of curriculum and mutual credit recognition with Prof. Geraint Wiggins.

Principals from the Office of International Affairs and the School of Computer and Information Technology were also present at the meeting.
