BJTU Signed the Contract of Training Program on Heavy-haul Railway Transportation with Indian Railway Board


From September 15 to 19, 2014, invited by Indian Ministry of Railways (Indian Railway Board), Assistant President XU Yugong joined the delegation of National Railway Administration to India led by Mr. LU Dongfu, Administrator of National Railway Administration, to discuss about Indian heavy-haul railway transportation, the acceleration of existing railway, the renovation of existing railway stations, the construction of high-speed railway and signed cooperation agreement with Indian Railway Board.


On September 17, Mr. LU Dongfu held in-depth discussions with Mr. Arunendra Kumar, Chairman of Indian Railway Board, on promoting key projects of Sino-Indian railway cooperation. Assistant President XU Yugong discussed about the training program of heavy haul railway transportation with Indian Railway Board on behalf of BJTU.

After the meeting, the University signed the “Service Contract of Training Program for Indian Senior Management Staff on Heavy-haul Railway Transportation” with Indian Railway Board. According to the Contract, Beijing Jiaotong University will organize experts to give lectures and arrange experiential study tours. The first program will be held this November. There are altogether five programs including four areas of civil works engineering, rolling stocks, locomotives and tractions, transportation and communication signals.

Prof. ZHU Xiaoning, Associate Dean of the School of Traffic and Transportation and HENG Fei from the Office of International Affairs were also present at the meeting.

The negotiations with India this time are important parts of Chinese President XI Jinping’s state visit to India. China issued joint statement with India on September 19 on “Building Closer Partnership for Development”. It is stated that both sides are satisfied with the progress made in bilateral railway cooperation, including the training program to Indian railway officials offered by BJTU.
